Batangas

Some of the provinces of the Paradise Philippines are indeed well known not only locally, but internationally as well. These provinces have some of the scenic and attractive places, perfect for a vacation or a weekend getaway. One excellent example is the province of Batangas.

Batangas is a province located in the southern part of Luzon. A ride from the metropolis of Manila to the capital of Batangas, namely Batangas City, takes more than two hours. Once in the province, a must see place is the Taal Lake, which also has the Taal Volcano in it. Several towns are alongside the lake, thus there are several viewing points available to see the lake and its volcano in its grandeur and majesty. There are also boat rides and lake tours available for those wanting to experience more in this lake.

But this province is not only famous for its attractions, but also for the industries and products Batangas has.

Perhaps Batangas is best known for its balisong, a fan knife that is made only here in the Paradise Philippines. It is also called a butterfly knife or Batangas Knife. This is a folding pocketknife with the two handles counter-rotating around the tang. In such way, once the balisong is closed, the blade of the knife is hidden within the grooves of the handles. There are ways in which the blade of the knife can be brought out quickly using only one hand. This industry of Batangas became so popular there’s an urban legend on the Batangueño and the balisong. The Batangueño carries a balisong everywhere he goes.

But that’s just an urban legend.
